Sant Pollastre festival
On 2 May, Poblenou celebrates one of its most singular festivities: “Sant Pollastre”, a day promoted by the neighbourhood’s Diables that combines humour, reinvented tradition and popular culture. Far from any conventional liturgy, the celebration builds its own story around irreverent characters and rituals that blend theatre, fire and collective participation.
About this event
The afternoon begins with a puppet theatre performance, which gives way to the procession of San Pedro the Liar, the central figure of this celebration, followed by a proclamation that sets the carefree tone of the day. From there, the programme unfolds with activities such as the Dance of the 7 Lies and the now characteristic Sant Pollastre race, where participants compete with carts they have built themselves.
When night falls, fire takes centre stage with the Camí de Foc, a correfoc that travels through the streets with the special participation of the Diables del Clot. The celebration continues with music and a bar, extending the atmosphere well into the night.
“Sant Pollastre” is, above all, a meeting place where the neighbourhood recognises itself through play, satire and shared celebration.
