Feast of Santa Rita at Casa Vicens

The celebration has roots dating back to the 18th century, when on the grounds now occupied by the house there was a convalescent residence of the Discalced Carmelites from the Josepets convent. There, a spring whose waters appeared to aid the recovery of the sick gave rise to a popular devotion dedicated to the saint.

Over time, the tradition became established in the neighbourhood. For decades, local residents went to Carolines Street to drink from the spring and pay homage to Santa Rita. Although the old chapel built in 1927 disappeared in the mid-20th century, the memory of that custom was never lost.

Today, the day retains that community spirit. During the morning, a charitable stall selling roses and candles is set up in front of the house, with proceeds going to neighbourhood social organisations. Afterwards, residents take part in Mass at the church of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, next to the building. The celebration culminates in the garden of Casa Vicens with the blessing of the roses, a symbolic gesture in which many make their wishes for the year that is beginning. A gathering where heritage, memory and neighbourhood life meet again.
