The Day of the Holy Innocents

It originates in a biblical episode recounting the slaughter of children under two years old, ordered by King Herod in order to prevent the arrival into the world of the child Jesus, who was regarded as a threat. The connection between the pranks and deceptions of this day and the story of the children is made through the tricks that parents had to devise to protect their children and keep them away from the pursuers sent by Herod.

Through various traditions, it is now celebrated in many Spanish-speaking countries as a date for playing pranks, similar to April Fool’s Day in April.
