Exhibition «Zurbarán (sobre)natural»

MNAC proposes a unique event: bringing together for the first time the three versions of La visión de San Francisco por el Papa Nicolás V, a masterpiece by Francisco de Zurbarán, dispersed for centuries between Barcelona, Lyon and Boston. Three paintings, the same silence. Three images, the same question: can an immobile body have more life than the living?

Zurbarán does not paint saints. Zurbarán paints presences. In his hands, light is more than illumination; it is breath, it is soul. In his painting, objects are silent, but not mute: they speak through their simplicity, their weight, their being. The exhibition also journeys into his iconic Bodegones con cacharros, where a bowl or a jug becomes absolute. Bare spaces, time held still, minimal and total beauty.

But Zurbarán (sobre)natural is also the present. It is echo. It is resonance. Works by Tàpies, Borrell, Llena or Valldosera enter into dialogue with the Baroque master in a single language: that of contemplation, matter and mystery.

It is not merely an exhibition. It is a space for looking closely at what always goes unnoticed. For discovering that the supernatural is not far away. It is here. Still. Waiting for someone who knows how to look.
