Exhibition «Yerba: el corazón verde de la trashumancia. Katy Gómez»

The practice of transhumance, far from being an obsolete method, represents a crucial survival strategy for communities in the planet’s most inhospitable regions, where life depends on the delicate balance between grass, ruminants and shepherds.

The exhibition captures the essence of transhumance, often described as a “green army” that clears undergrowth and fertilises the land while turning grass into vital resources such as meat, wool and milk. This system not only promotes the survival of native breeds and helps to anchor the rural population, but also guarantees animal welfare and produces food in an ethically sustainable way.

At a time when transhumance faces significant decline, Gómez’s work seeks to spark a debate about its environmental, social and economic value. The exhibition uses the power of photography to bring the public closer to this ancient practice, underlining its relevance in producing healthy, sustainable diets, especially in disadvantaged areas.
