Exhibition «¿Y después de Le Corbusier?», Michel Ragon

Through Ragon's work and criticism, this exhibition examines the critic's relationships with GIAP (Grupo Internacional de Arquitectura Prospectiva), a collective of innovative architects who, in Paris in 1965, sought to rethink the future of architecture.

Ragon, born in Marseille in 1924 and deceased in Suresnes in 2020, was an outstanding critic who extended his interest beyond art, encompassing a libertarian anarchist vision that deeply influenced his work. His studies of proletarian literature and his connections with avant-garde movements such as the Cobra group and figures such as Jean Dubuffet shaped his critical approach to architecture and urban planning.

The exhibition explores how Ragon's admiration for Le Corbusier directed his criticism towards architecture, seeing in the GIAP's proposals a continuation of the famous Swiss architect's theories, especially with regard to the «machine for living». The exhibition's themes range from participatory urban planning to social housing, illustrating how these young architects anticipated contemporary debates about local agriculture and urban design.

Michel Ragon's documents and archival material, preserved at the Archives de la Critique d’Art at the University of Rennes, form the basis of this in-depth historical and critical review, offering visitors a rich insight into how architecture can influence and transform society. This exhibition is not only a tribute to Ragon but also a call to reflect on the future directions of architecture and urban planning in our changing world.
