“Vendrán las mujeres. 150 years of struggles in the streets of Barcelona” proposes a journey through the city’s recent history from an unusual perspective: that of the women who transformed the cultural, social and political life of their time and left a mark that is still present today.
About this event
The exhibition brings together the voices and trajectories of around eighty women writers, artists and activists who, from the end of the 19th century to the present day, occupied public space to challenge limits, open paths and defend rights. Through their works, ideas and experiences, the exhibition reconstructs a complex, diverse Barcelona in constant transformation.
The tour is organised into four major historical periods—from the construction of the modern city to contemporary challenges—and allows visitors to discover how different generations of women took part in fundamental debates on housing, work, personal freedom, the right to one’s own body and political action.
Literature and art act as connecting threads in a narrative that links memory and the present. More than a historical review, the exhibition invites us to observe the city through those who lived it, wrote it and imagined it differently.
“Vendrán las mujeres” recovers names, stories and demands that help us better understand Barcelona. A collective account that shows that many of the struggles that defined the past continue to resonate in the streets of the present.
