Exhibition «Valérie Belin»

Trained in art and philosophy, Belin has built a practice since the 1990s that questions identity through repetition and seriality. Her photographs — bodybuilders, mannequins, portraits that look like masks — do not seek to represent, but to put vision under tension. In them, the human appears filtered, transformed, sometimes unrecognisable.

From the mid-2000s, colour bursts in and opens a new stage that the artist defines as “magical realism”. The figures become ambiguous: between body and object, between presence and simulacrum. That ambivalence runs through the entire exhibition.

The project also establishes a dialogue with artistic tradition, connecting her work with questions that remain open: what is an image, what does it show and what does it hide? Rather than offering answers, the exhibition proposes an experience of sustained observation, in which each photograph compels us to reconsider what is taken as real.
