The future is no longer what it used to be. Or perhaps it never was. The exhibition Robin Kid: The Future is Old arrives at the Moco Museum to remind us that old stories always find a way to repeat themselves… unless someone stops them.
About this event
For THE KID, that someone has a young face. Rebellious. Nonconformist. His works — hyperrealistic sculptures, fragmented paintings, disconcerting installations — are the cry of a generation that refuses to inherit a broken world without asking questions.
In a time of invisible walls and recycled promises, THE KID captures the tensions of the present with an almost uncomfortable rawness. He takes icons from the past and dresses them in the future, playing with pop aesthetics and childlike innocence to speak about power, inequality, freedom and guilt. Because, as Coretta Scott King warned, every generation must win its own freedom.
The Future is Old does not decorate; it unsettles. It does not seek easy answers, but rather to open cracks. Where others see nostalgia, THE KID sees a warning. Where others see the future, he asks: whose future?
An exhibition not to be contemplated, but crossed through. An experience that does not leave you the same as when you entered. Because sometimes art is not only a reflection of the world. Sometimes it is a direct challenge.
