Exhibition «Picasso i el port. 1895-1904»
The exhibition «Picasso i el port. 1895-1904» celebrates the young Pablo Picasso’s deep connection with Port Vell de Barcelona, a place that shaped his early creative years after he moved to the city in 1895. Organised by Port de Barcelona, Museu Picasso, Barcelona City Council and BWA Yachting, this outdoor urban exhibition illustrates how the maritime setting decisively influenced the artist’s work.
About this event
Through a route that takes in Muelle del Depósito and other areas of the port, visitors can explore six distinct thematic areas, from «El puerto de Picasso», which explores his formative years, to «La vida social junto al mar», which reflects the customs of the period. Large-format panels with reproductions of Picasso’s works and photographs contemporary with his residence in Barcelona establish a visual dialogue with the port’s modern infrastructure.
This free exhibition, available until 28 February 2025, not only offers a unique perspective on Picasso’s early artistic years, but also shows the technological and social changes in Port Vell during those years, providing an enriching context for the interaction between art and urban space.
