Exhibition ‘Our Ghosts Live in the Future’
The Fundació Joan Miró hosts ‘Our Ghosts Live in the Future’, the first solo exhibition in Spain by artist Tuan Andrew Nguyen, who has been awarded the Joan Miró Prize. In this exhibition, Nguyen presents a series of video installations and sculptures made from recovered war materials, such as bombs and projectiles, highlighting the aftermath of the wars in Vietnam.
About this event
Nguyen, born in Saigon in 1976 and later emigrating to the United States with his family as part of the ‘boat people’ refugees, returns to his native land to explore and document the human and physical consequences of the French and American military conflicts that shook Vietnam.
The exhibition establishes a dialogue between the aesthetics of Western artists such as Joan Miró and Alexander Calder and experiences on Vietnamese battlefields, incorporating objects and accounts that cross cultures and times. Through his works, Nguyen transforms remnants of war into powerful artistic testimonies that tell both their destructive history and their potential for redemption and forgiveness.
This exhibition not only documents the scars of war, but also reflects on the role of art as a bridge between personal histories and universal discourses, showing that echoes of the past continue to influence our perception of the future.
