«Maya Deren. A Cadence of Images» exhibition

The temporary exhibition «Maya Deren. A Cadence of Images», presented by the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món, pays tribute to the multifaceted artist Maya Deren, considered a pioneer of 20th-century experimental cinema. Deren, a filmmaker, writer, poet, dancer and ethnologist, left her mark on the world of art and cinema.

Between 1947 and 1955, Deren carried out important research in Haiti, where she explored vodou practices, integrating her ethnographic experience with her passion for film. Her works, such as "Meshes of the Afternoon", through a unique cinematic language combine elements of dance and poetry.

The exhibition offers a selection of her films, photographs, manuscripts and documents that illustrate her creative process and her impact on contemporary cinema. Through this exhibition, visitors will be able to enter Deren’s world, discovering how her legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists and filmmakers. «Maya Deren.
