Exhibition «La Infamia. Catalan participation in colonial slavery»

Since February 2025, the Museu Marítim de Barcelona has been displaying «La Infamia», a project that invites the public to confront an uncomfortable chapter in Catalan history. Through documentary materials and a solid narrative, the exhibition sets out how Catalan sectors actively participated in the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved people bound for the Caribbean.

The exhibition has been developed on the basis of a script by Antoni Tortajada, with support from Martín Rodrigo and exhibition design by Ignasi Cristià. La Infamia challenges Catalan society today—more diverse and complex—and promotes a dialogue about the continuation of this legacy, which still survives in the form of structural racism and the exploitation of migrant populations.

With a clear and direct presentation, La Infamia seeks to generate reflection and awareness. It aims to promote a critical understanding of the colonial legacy, encouraging an open conversation about how the past still shapes our present.
