«IMPERIVM. Roman Stories» exhibition
What did it really mean to be Roman? What was everyday life like in a civilisation that dominated the Mediterranean for more than 700 years? The new permanent exhibition at Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya (MAC), «IMPERIVM. Roman Stories», invites visitors to rediscover Rome's legacy from a contemporary perspective, through its inhabitants, customs and the impact that remains present in our society.
About this event
Far from being a simple display of archaeological objects, «IMPERIVM» is a sensory and immersive experience that combines videomappings, 360-degree resources and more than 200 exceptional archaeological pieces. From frescoes to inscriptions and sculptures, visitors will be able to explore the social structure, beliefs, power, leisure and work of a civilisation that shaped the Western world.
Through first-person accounts, the exhibition makes it possible to hear the Romans themselves recount their experiences, concerns and aspirations, creating a bridge between past and present. The MAC brings together key pieces from its Roman collection here, with finds from Barcelona, Tarragona and Empúries, as well as from other territories under imperial rule.
