Exhibition «Francesc d’A. Galí. The invisible master»

In a turbulent and fertile 20th century, Galí preferred to remain in the shadows, allowing his pupils to shine. And what pupils: Joan Miró, Llorens Artigas, among many others. He taught them how to look, but never sought the gaze.

This exhibition rescues from oblivion someone who was a cornerstone of modern Catalan art, but who scarcely signed his work with pride. Trained alongside Pompeu Fabra, Galí revolutionised art education amid the effervescence of Noucentisme. From the classrooms of the Escuela de Arte and the Escuela de Bellos Oficios, he sowed a new way of thinking about art: free, humanist and committed to sensitivity.

Despite having left his mark on the dome of the Palacio Nacional and on numerous works, Galí did not cultivate a personal legacy: his work was to pass things on, not to accumulate. This exhibition is an invitation to rediscover him as an artist, educator and key figure in the foundations of modern Catalan art.

The invisible master is a historical reparation. A silent revelation. Because sometimes, the most revolutionary thing is not to occupy centre stage.
