«Eveli Torent. Between Els Quatre Gats and Freemasonry» exhibition

The exhibition unfolds the life and art of Eveli Torent, a painter and illustrator deeply rooted in Barcelona modernism, born in Badalona in 1876. This retrospective examines his contributions to the artistic and social circles of his time, placing special emphasis on his relationship with the emblematic Els 4 Gats café, a genuine hotbed of activity for the era’s creative elite.

The exhibition also illuminates Torent’s period with Picasso between 1899 and 1900, during which Picasso made three charcoal portraits of Torent, highlighting the interconnectedness of both artists’ lives and work. In addition, "Eveli Torent. Entre Els Quatre Gats y la masonería" examines Torent’s ties to Freemasonry, a movement known for its principles of liberty, equality and fraternity, which significantly influenced the cultural and social landscape of that time. Torent’s relationship with this group sheds light on aspects of his work and its resonance in the art of his era.
