Exhibition «Out of Focus. Another Vision of Art»
The exhibition Out of Focus. Another Vision of Art proposes a small visual rebellion: stop looking for perfectly sharp images and accept that, sometimes, what slips away also has something important to say. Starting from an idea that transformed modern painting—the defocus introduced by Claude Monet’s water lilies—the exhibition explores how imprecision came to become a new way of looking.
About this event
Far from understanding blurriness as an error or an absence, the exhibition presents defocus as a language in its own right. Unfinished works, blurred images, soft-focus effects and hazy visual boundaries appear here as tools capable of generating new readings and other ways of perceiving reality.
The exhibition brings together paintings, videos, photographs and installations in which artists from very different periods and sensibilities engage in dialogue: from J. M. W. Turner and Gerhard Richter to Bill Viola and Christian Boltanski. Together, the works seem to remind us that the human gaze has never been entirely precise.
More than an exhibition about what is seen, Out of Focus speaks of what remains between the lines, at the margins and in the areas where the image leaves room for imagination.
