The exhibition “Avinguda Gaudí, a living memory between Sagrada Familia and Hospital de Sant Pau” traces the history of one of Barcelona’s most recognisable avenues and reveals everything that exists behind its urban landscape. Architecture, memory and neighbourhood life meet along the route linking two great landmarks of Catalan modernism.
About this event
At one end is Sagrada Familia, closely linked to the neighbourhood from its origins. Antoni Gaudí used residents as models for the figures on the Nativity Façade and promoted the construction of schools for the children of the temple’s workers.
At the other end is Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner as a hospital complex where buildings, gardens and open spaces were also intended to contribute to patients’ wellbeing.
The exhibition thus turns Avinguda Gaudí into more than a connection between two monuments: it presents it as a place also built by people, memories and the city’s everyday transformation.
