‘Antoni Tàpies. The Wall’s Perpetual Movement’ exhibition

The project continues the line of research begun in Antoni Tàpies. The Imagination of the World, but shifts the focus towards the context in which the works were conceived and shown. The route is structured around four solo exhibitions held by Tàpies during those years, each with different groups of works and installation solutions, revealing the evolution of his material and conceptual concerns.

The exhibition brings these exhibition experiences into dialogue with the period’s broader debates, linking the artist’s work with modern architecture, emerging industry, graphic and editorial design, as well as transformations in urban space and the ways of life of the time. The wall, a central element in Tàpies’s iconography, appears here as a living surface, a site of friction between matter, thought and context.

More than a chronological review, the exhibition proposes an open reading that makes it possible to understand how Tàpies’s work is constructed in constant movement, in direct relation to the time and surroundings around it.
