«Al Voltant» exhibition
The «Al Voltant» installation transforms the Disseny Hub Barcelona lobby into a setting where an intimate tradition becomes a shared experience. Inspired by the tortell de Reis ritual, that scene repeated in thousands of homes every 6 January — the table laid, the cake in the centre, the knife turning, the suspense over the fava or the king figurine — the proposal elevates this domestic gesture to a monumental scale.
About this event
Instead of the family cake, visitors find a six-metre-diameter inflatable tortell, lit from within, occupying the space like an almost fantastical presence. Its soft, surprising volume turns the lobby into a great Christmas table, where tradition ceases to belong to private homes and becomes public and celebratory.
But «Al Voltant» is not only an image: it includes an interactive device that reinterprets the tortell game, inviting participation in a journey full of wishes, chance and complicity. Every gesture by the visitor activates small moments of light, symbolic nods that evoke the good omens associated with the original ritual.
With this installation, DHub offers a contemporary reading of a deeply rooted custom, reclaiming the value of modest rites that, year after year, weave collective memory. «Al Voltant» turns an everyday moment into a public, luminous celebration full of Christmas spirit.
