Spanish Civil War historical walking tour

Over approximately 2.5 hours, the walk crosses the old town, the scene of confrontations, bombings and tensions that shaped the country’s course. Far from the usual tourist gaze, the itinerary focuses on the details that remain in the streets: architectural scars, key spaces and episodes that still resonate.

The route is built around questions. What role did the different ideologies play? How did international figures and powers exert influence? What happened to those who defended opposing ideas? With the support of images and clear explanations, the guide threads together a narrative that helps to organise a fragmented history.

Literary references also appear, such as the settings George Orwell recorded in Homage to Catalonia, adding another layer of interpretation to the route.

The meeting point is Plaça de Catalunya and the route ends in the Gothic Quarter, near the City Hall. More than a history lesson, the proposal invites visitors to view the city as an open archive, where the past remains inscribed in the present.
