Ceramics workshop ‘Christmas tree ornaments’
The ceramics workshop ‘Christmas tree ornaments’ invites participants to recover a tradition that has filled homes with beauty during Advent for centuries. Inspired by the Christmas customs of the community of Poor Clare nuns—where the nativity scene is central, but not the only decoration marking this time of year—the workshop offers the chance to create unique decorations for the tree from an enduring material: ceramics.
About this event
Led by the Spiralsceramicbcn team, the workshop offers a first approach to the ceramic universe, a world where time is measured differently and where each piece is born from a balance of technique, patience and touch. Participants will learn to work with the slab technique, play with textures and shapes, and decorate their creations using slips and glazes, two resources that give ornaments a personality of their own.
The process does not end at the worktable. Once shaped and decorated, the pieces will undergo the relevant firing and can be collected days later at the monastery reception, ready to hang on the tree. That final gesture—placing at home an ornament made with one's own hands—turns the object into a symbol: a reminder of the calm, craftsmanship and care that so often accompany the Christmas spirit.
This workshop is, in essence, an invitation to stop and create. To transform a handful of clay into a detail that will accompany many Christmases.
