Christmas at Zoo de Barcelona

This year’s great symbol is a 12-metre fir tree presiding over La Dama del Paraigua square, turned into a meeting point and setting for carols, photos and, of course, the traditional tió. A few steps away, «La casa dels tions» invites children to learn how this character from Catalan folklore cares for the forests and how they can help it.

On 24 December, at 12:00, the Zoo will celebrate one of its most eagerly anticipated moments: a collective caga tió, a tradition that year after year brings together whole families. The Christmas scavenger hunt also returns, running until 31 December, a playful route that combines play and learning about conservation.

During the school holidays, the casals return — on cooking, conservation and journeys with animals — for children aged 5 to 14. And on 22 and 23 December, the Zoo will celebrate Dia del Cangur with free double tickets for grandparents, uncles and aunts, and carers who make work-life balance possible for so many families.

As a new feature, an experimental activity dedicated to wetlands has been added, explaining their role as natural filters and showing the water-regeneration pilot plant of the LIFE4Zoo project. Available at weekends and on public holidays, it offers a hands-on experience for understanding how nature works… even inside the Zoo.
