The children’s workshop «Mummies, sarcophagi and other secrets» invites the most curious to travel directly to the heart of Pharaonic Egypt, a world where life and death formed part of the same mystery. This activity, designed exclusively for boys and girls, reveals clearly and fascinatingly what mummifying meant, why it was done and what the process that allowed a body to prepare for eternity was like.
About this event
Throughout the guided visit to the museum rooms, young explorers will discover who could be mummified, which rituals accompanied the ceremony and how the Egyptians believed that the soul needed a protected body to continue its journey.
They will also learn to distinguish the different types of sarcophagi, from the simplest to the richly decorated, and will observe their shapes, colours and materials, understanding what they represented and what messages were hidden in the hieroglyphs that cover them.
After the tour, the practical workshop will make it possible to put everything learned into practice: participants will be able to examine reproductions, decipher symbols and recreate elements of Egyptian funerary imagery, understanding that behind every mummy there is a story, a belief and a way of seeing the world.
