“Argonauts of the City” activities for children

The journey begins on 22 December at El Born, where young naturalists will learn to identify flora and fauna using methods from the modern era and create an artistic collage with plant elements.

23 December will be a double event: at El Born, they will discover how Barcelonans lived in the 1700s by building their own historical diorama, while at Plaça del Rei they will travel even further back to learn about the Roman water system, recreating aqueducts, sewers and games inspired by ancient Barcino.

On 24 December, also at El Born, it will be time to look to the sky: the story of the comet of 1705 will be used to explore astronomical innovations, solve an escape room around the archaeological site and create a personalised planisphere.

After Christmas, on 29 December, the explorers will become cartographers to design their own map of El Born, learning how the world was represented centuries ago.

On 30 December there will be two possible routes: at El Born, a workshop on new foods of the modern era will culminate in handmade chocolate lollipops; at Plaça del Rei, participants will discover Gothic architecture through games and medieval objects.

To close the year, on 31 December, the revolution of colour will take centre stage with the creation of indianas, the printed fabrics that shaped 1700s fashion.

And on 2 January, while the city awaits the Three Wise Men, the argonauts will learn about fashionable games in modern Barcelona, ancestors of tennis, croquet and golf.

“Argonauts of the City” proposes a different Christmas: a journey through history that can be touched, experienced and lived with wonder.
