«Planetarium» show
In the heart of the Christmas atmosphere, when the city fills with lights and wishes, MAC Barcelona proposes looking much further: towards the sky. «Planetarium» is an immersive family experience inviting visitors to discover stars, constellations, planets and the moon inside a dome that transforms the museum into a small universe.
About this event
The installation, shaped like an igloo and measuring four metres in diameter and almost three metres high, houses a 360° planetarium that surrounds the audience with a constantly moving sky. Seated beneath a dome that seems to breathe, attendees will see stellar routes, celestial mythologies and astronomical phenomena unfold with a closeness normally possible only outdoors, on very clear nights.
The aim is not to memorise names or facts, but to awaken curiosity: to understand how constellations are organised, why the moon changes appearance, what distinguishes a planet from a star, or what stories humans invented to explain what they saw in the sky. Astronomy thus appears not as an inaccessible science, but as a fascinating narrative connecting past, present and future.
Designed for children aged 4 and over, the show invites whole families to travel together, eyes wide open and imaginations alight. At Christmas, when the world seems to fill with magic, “Planetarium” reminds us that true magic has been shining above our heads for millions of years.
