Pel davant i pel darrera arrives at Teatro Borrás with the energy of a freshly assembled comic bomb. Michael Frayn’s play, now a global classic, once again shows that few things are as funny as watching a performance fall apart in real time.

This new production does not merely revive the text: it reactivates it, sharpens it and turns it into a mechanism of humour that runs like clockwork… although the clock, of course, is always about to fall to the floor.
The plot begins with a company trying to premiere a third-rate British comedy. But before the curtain even rises, it is already clear that nothing will go as it should. Lines are forgotten, stage marks are confused, doors behave as if they had a will of their own, and sardines appear on stage with inexplicable punctuality. Meanwhile, beneath the surface among the actors run jealousy, flirtations and small betrayals, turning the backstage area into territory even more explosive than the stage.
Frayn proposes a double game: what happens “in front” and what happens “behind” contaminate one another until they produce a delirium that grows act by act. The first has the flavour of classic vaudeville; the second is a farce that moves at full speed; the third, a glorious collapse in which everything is mixed together and the audience ends up laughing even before the disasters happen.
With nine performers devoted to chaos and staging that heightens the precision of disorder, this version of Pel davant i pel darrera does not seek to imitate anything. Like the best comedy, it prefers to push the spectator towards that place where the ridiculous becomes art and failure becomes a pure theatrical celebration.
