L’últim àtom imagines a world where uncertainty ceases to be a passing feeling and becomes a way of inhabiting reality. Jordi Oriol’s new creation begins with a question as unsettling as it is simple: what happens when words begin to disappear and, with them, the things they name?
About this event
While government advisers try to find answers to a threat that seems to be spreading everywhere, a family goes through its own intimate collapse: a missing daughter and a grandmother who is gradually losing language. Two crises that unfold in parallel and reveal the same concern: the human need to make sense of what is incomprehensible.
The play confronts two ways of understanding the world, placing scientific logic and the power of words face to face. But another question also arises amid the chaos: whether naming something can make it exist or perhaps whether the fictions we create are the only way we have to endure what we cannot explain.
Between humour, strangeness and an apocalyptic tone, L’últim àtom creates a tragicomedy in which the end of the world may not arrive with an explosion, but with silence.
