L’estiueig takes Carlo Goldoni’s La villeggiatura trilogy and brings it to the stage with a fresh, sharp look at the art — and absurdity — of holidaymaking. Through two families determined to turn holidays into a competition of appearances, the play humourously portrays the clash between tradition and modernity, between the desire to belong and the need to keep up appearances.

The adaptation, directed by Adrià Aubert, retains Goldoni’s popular, direct pulse while connecting it with a very contemporary sensibility. With only four performers on stage, the production multiplies characters and situations to build a vibrant universe, where comedy is mixed with subtle criticism of consumerism, passing fashions and those social rituals everyone recognises.
The company’s handcrafted hallmark can be felt in every detail: nimble staging, music integrated into the narrative and a rhythm that turns the 75-minute performance into a chain of misunderstandings, confidences and small family battles. The dramaturgy, by Aubert and Carla Coll, does not merely update a classic, but shakes it up to ask what it means today to rest, spend and put oneself on display before others.
The result is a show in Catalan that invites audiences to laugh at themselves while leaving an uncomfortable question hanging: how much of our holidays is truly rest and how much is pure performance.
