«La tercera fuga» show

With «La tercera fuga», playwright Victoria Szpunberg has created one of her most personal and complex works to date. What at first sight appears to be a family story unfolds as an emotional map that crosses countries, generations and inherited silences. The work does not recount a single exile, but three intertwined moments of escape ranging from Eastern Europe in the 1920s to Buenos Aires under the military dictatorship, and from there to present-day Barcelona, where the past still weighs heavily.

The production, carefully crafted down to the last detail, plays with several languages, live music and a living stage design that accompanies the leaps in time. But the essential thing lies in the text: Szpunberg creates real characters, with contradictions, wounds and humour. Far from forced melodrama, the work moves with a naturalness that allows the audience to recognise themselves in many of its layers.

Leading the cast is Clara Segura, who brings a steady and emotionally restrained presence. Her performance carries much of the narrative and gives shape to a character marked by history, but also by unresolved questions.

«La tercera fuga» speaks of politics, yes, but above all of what remains when a life breaks apart. Of how traumas are passed on without words. Of how a daughter can repeat her mother's steps without knowing it. And of how sometimes there is no option but to flee in order to start again.

It is a complex production, but one of those that leaves a mark. If you are in Barcelona, do not miss the opportunity to see it before 1 June. It is not just theatre: it is living memory brought to the stage.
