Written by Lucy Kirkwood, the play places the audience in an apparently quiet country house where Hazel and Robin, two retired nuclear scientists, try to rebuild their routine after the accident at the power station where they worked for years. The isolation, however, is broken by the unexpected arrival of Rose, a former work colleague, whose visit reopens wounds they thought were buried.

From that encounter, the domestic space becomes terrain charged with tension. Old loyalties, secrets and guilt begin to surface as the three protagonists face an unavoidable moral question: who should bear the consequences of past decisions and what sacrifices are justified in the name of the future.

The piece moves from the intimate to the universal, exploring individual and collective responsibility without grand speeches, but through precise dialogue and restrained emotions. Under the invisible threat of radiation, the play draws a human portrait of fear, memory and the debt to future generations. Recognised with the Best Play award at the Writers’ Guild Awards of the United Kingdom and nominated for two Tony Awards, Els Fills offers theatre that unsettles, challenges and lingers beyond the stage.
