Barcelona Districte Cultural Festival

Barcelona Districte Cultural brings culture to neighbourhoods through a proposal that turns the city’s civic centres into spaces for meeting, discovery and participation. Its aim is simple: access to art, thought and entertainment should not depend on postcode, but should form part of everyday life in every district.

The project brings together four major programmes covering different disciplines and formats. Escena brings professional theatre, dance, music and circus performances to local facilities; Pantalla turns civic centres into cinemas where local productions and internationally acclaimed films coexist; Temporals promotes travelling contemporary-art exhibitions that engage with each neighbourhood; and Argumenta opens spaces for reflection through talks and meetings with specialists from different fields.

More than a cultural programme, Barcelona Districte Cultural proposes a different way of experiencing the city. Each activity creates links between artists, organisations, facilities and residents, generating new conversations and forms of participation.

With free access and a presence spread throughout Barcelona, this initiative shows that culture can be only a few minutes from home. A project that turns neighbourhoods into stages, exhibition halls, cinemas and discussion forums, bringing contemporary creation closer to increasingly diverse audiences.
