Ballet Nacional de España at the Gran Teatre del Liceu

Morau, winner of the 2013 National Dance Award and director of La Veronal, explores on this occasion the intersection between the static image and the fluid movement of dance, reflecting a deep respect and fascination for flamenco, seen through the lens of an outsider artist.

The Ballet Nacional show, directed by Rubén Olmo, transcends the traditional representation of flamenco to turn it into a visual narrative in which every dance step heightens the dramatic intensity of Afanador’s photographs. Morau describes the flamenco captured by Afanador as a «direct and piercing» language that reveals a duality of joy and lament, symbolising both a refuge and a cry for cultural freedom.
