«Amalia y el río» brings to the stage a piece of Spain’s silenced memory: the story of smuggling told through the eyes of a woman who refused to surrender.
About this event
Inspired by the life of Antonia «La Lirina», a resident of Olivenza, the play paints a portrait of a strong, resourceful and tenacious protagonist who fought for her dignity and for the right to earn a living in a world dominated by men.
The staging is built around two essential figures: Amalia, who travels between her present and the echo of her past, and the enigmatic Hombre de Piedra, a presence that emerges from her memories and embodies patriarchal power. He whispers, sings, watches and talks with her, creating an atmosphere charged with symbolism and emotional tension.
With an intimate and evocative theatrical language, «Amalia y el río» not only tells a story of survival and rebellion; it is also a reflection on collective memory, women’s struggle and the traces time leaves on those who dare to challenge it.
