Festival of digital culture and humour “Memefest 2025”

Digital information spreads daily like a virus while, at the same time, the internet fills with all kinds of comments and criticism. In the age of information technology and communications, the ordinary citizen must arm themselves with their own filter to deal with such a media bombardment.

Based on an inquiry into why humour has become so common in the digital age, Memefest 2025, taking place in Barcelona, will be a space for debate and encounter where curious people can delve into these questions. According to its organisers, memes are part of contemporary culture and the digital creation of humorous images serves as an effective link.

The day begins at 19:00 with “You too can touch grass”, a monologue by Indicatiu that dissects screen addiction and nostalgia for offline intimacy. At 19:30, Emma Soler and Àlex Vila take the stage with “Influencers NO, please:-)”, a performative class that questions the concept of the content creator and loneliness behind the camera.

At 20:00 it will be the turn of “Journey to the centre of fandomverse”, a guided tour by Semproniana and Anamurada to discover the fan universe: fanfiction, fan art and global communities that place enjoyment above profit.

The evening continues at 20:30 with “Making the world tender”, a dialogue between María Barrier, Ouineta and Llum on tenderness as a strategy of resistance on an internet dominated by hatred and monetisation.

And to close, at 21:15, Llum will turn theory into rhythm with a DJ set of fresh pop and nineties vibes.

Each activity will focus on conscious and fruitful discussion about the digital world, always grounded in humour and creativity.
