Jewish Film Festival

Far from nostalgia, this edition turns memory into an active form of resistance: remembering is not only looking back, but denouncing, understanding and defending human dignity in the face of barbarism.

Eighty years after the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the nuclear horror of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the festival reflects on the echo of that universal cry: “Never again”. A motto that, in the face of today’s wars in Gaza or Ukraine, becomes more urgent than ever.

The selected films address memory from different perspectives: everyday survival in When Lightning Flashes Over the Sea by Eva Neyman; creativity as a refuge in Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse; or innocence and collective guilt in Ulica Graniczna by Alexander Ford, one of the first films to depict the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Also noteworthy are The Commandant’s Shadow by Daniela Völker, about the meeting between the son of the Auschwitz commandant and a survivor, and Unter den Brettern hellgrünes Gras by Antje Heyn, a visual poem inspired by the testimony of Romani artist and writer Ceija Stojka.

The festival, with screenings at the Cinema Truffaut de Girona, reaffirms its commitment to cinema as a tool for memory, justice and humanity.
