Film series «Delphine Seyrig: actress, filmmaker and activist»

The retrospective is divided into two parts. The first traces the French actress’s professional development from her debut in «L’année dernière à Marienbad» (1961) and her establishment as an iconic face of auteur cinema, through to the work after May 1968. At this point in her career, at the height of her fame, Seyrig reconsidered her ideas as a woman and actress, turning towards projects from a female perspective and breaking with the stereotyped image of the idealised, mysterious and sophisticated woman projected onto her by filmmakers such as Resnais, Losey, Truffaut and Buñuel.

The second part of the series shows the video activism in which she became involved in the 1970s and 1980s. It highlights the work of Les Insoumuses, the feminist collective formed by Carole Roussopoulos, Ivana Wieder and Seyrig herself. Together, they wrote a fundamental chapter in the history of feminism through the innovative use of video as a tool for protest and social awareness.
