Film season «Maurice Pialat Centenary»
On the centenary of his birth, Maurice Pialat returns to the big screen with the full force of his untameable cinema. From 8 to 31 July, Zumzeig hosts a retrospective season devoted to one of the essential names in French cinema, a unique opportunity to discover or revisit his work in the quality it deserves: restored in 2K and 4K.
About this event
Pialat was a fiercely honest filmmaker. His camera did not fear emotional truth, however uncomfortable or contradictory it might be. In every one of his shots, the viewer finds bodies that hesitate, love, hurt or simply exist with a palpable, unadorned humanity. This retrospective offers a journey through that harsh and luminous gaze across his 10 key feature films and a special shorts session.
From L’enfance nue to Van Gogh, the series offers a complete view of the radical style of a director who defied labels, shunned artifice and left a legacy as harsh as it is unforgettable. Pialat did not seek to please: he sought truth. And in an age of easy images, his cinema resonates more than ever.
