Debates «Morocco: a contemporary cartography»
CCCB presents the debate series «Morocco: a contemporary cartography», a proposal that moves away from closed narratives to explore the complexity of a country in transformation. Across several sessions, the project traces a moving map that takes different cities as starting points for understanding the tensions, changes and cultural vitality of present-day Morocco.
About this event
The series pays particular attention to Tangier, a city steeped in imaginaries which, for decades, was a symbol of openness and cosmopolitanism. Under the title «Tangier, after the myth», the sessions on 6 and 7 May invite participants to revisit that narrative from the present. Filmmakers including Maryam Touzani and Nabil Ayouch take part, their cinematic perspectives engaging with the country’s social reality.
The second day brings in voices connected to the city’s cultural and urban fabric, such as Amina Mourid, Zoubeir Ben Bouchta and Claire Trichot, in a gathering that addresses Tangier as a space shaped by memory, conflict and transformation.
Rather than offering answers, the series proposes opening up questions and shifting perspectives. An invitation to rethink the relationships between both shores of the Mediterranean through listening and complexity.
