Project «Dols Queer. El museu acompanya el plor»

This digital project—between ritual, archive and revolt—calls on LGTBIQ+ artists and activists to write the funerals we were never allowed to have, to name griefs taken from us before we could even feel them.

Drawing on works from the Museu Nacional, the invited creators rewrite the iconography of pain, traversing it with bodies and stories displaced from the official narrative. As if medieval Llibres d’Hores were cut open to make way for new prayers: words that do not ask permission, that bleed, that embrace.

This resource is not merely memory. It is a crack. A collective whisper spoken aloud. A way of claiming what art can also be: consolation, cry, open wound. «Dols Queer» does not dress in mourning; it undresses it. It does not close off pain; it makes it a landscape for those who have had no place in either death or narrative.

The museum thus becomes a space of shared mourning. Because crying, when done together, is also resistance. And sometimes, the most radical thing art can do… is allow us to cry.
