“Per il Santissimo Natale” recovers a way of celebrating Christmas that looks more to quiet reflection than to clamour. In the heart of the Baroque era, this time of year gave rise to music intended to stop time, to create soundscapes where faith, emotion and beauty went hand in hand. This concert enters that tradition and brings it into the present with a careful, luminous interpretation.

The programme links four great names of the 18th century who understood Christmas as a space of musical intimacy. Vivaldi wrote Il riposo, a work of broad breathing and pastoral calm, composed to accompany winter silence. Torelli contributes the solidity and balance of the Concerto grosso op. 8 no. 6, a key piece in the Italian Christmas repertoire. Alessandro Marcello’s oboe introduces a moment of intense melodic introspection, almost suspended in the air. Händel, for his part, closes the journey with two organ concertos full of ingenuity, conceived as brilliant interludes within his oratorios.
Leading the performance is Vespres d’Arnadí, with Dani Espasa conducting and on the organ, accompanied by an ensemble of soloists specialising in early music. The result is a musical Christmas made up of nuance, balance and restrained emotion, where every note invites calm, attentive listening.
