Barbara Hammer retrospective

From 22 May to 30 June 2026, the programme brings together films that transformed the way the body, desire and identity are represented in cinema. Hammer turned the camera into a tool for personal and political investigation, building a filmography deeply linked to lesbian experiences, collective memory and alternative ways of understanding intimacy.

Far from conventional narrative codes, her works invite us to experience cinema through emotion, perception and movement. Each work questions the limits of representation and proposes new ways of relating to images, affections and history.

More than a review of her career, this retrospective recovers the legacy of a creator who expanded the possibilities of audiovisual language and opened paths for later generations of artists and filmmakers. An opportunity to rediscover a singular perspective that continues to engage with many of today’s cultural and social debates.
