film series “The New Asian Cinema”

Each film offers a unique opportunity to explore and better understand the cultures and peoples represented, consolidating their identities through striking visual stories.

The programme travels through geographies as diverse as India, Kazakhstan, Iran, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, the Philippines and Australia, building a mosaic of stories that connect the intimate with the social. Most of the films were made between 2022 and 2025, reinforcing the contemporary nature of the series, with the exception of Memory of Love (2009), by Chinese director Wang Chao.

The opening is led by Body, by the Indian filmmaker Abhijit Mazumdar, followed by titles such as Green Plum Season (Iran), Longer Than a Day (Kazakhstan), The Past is Present (Bangladesh) and Qian Tang River (China). Throughout the screenings, viewers encounter stories about identity, memory, family relationships, migration and personal crises.
