When July arrives, the nights at L’illa Diagonal find in cinema one of their best reasons to gather outdoors. Once again, the amphitheatre in the Sant Joan de Déu gardens is transformed into a cinema under the stars where visitors can enjoy some of the season’s most eagerly awaited films in a relaxed summer setting.

Every Thursday, from 2 to 30 July, the “Cinema a la fresca” series invites people to swap traditional cinema seats for a closer experience, where the open air forms part of the screening. The programme brings together recent titles such as Valor sentimental, Incontrolable, Mi amiga Eva, Hamnet and Calle Málaga, offering a varied selection for those looking for a different way to enjoy cinema in the city.
The proposal combines the simplicity of a summer night with the appeal of watching a film in an open space, surrounded by gardens and away from the usual rhythm of the week. Doors open at 21:00 h, allowing visitors to enjoy the atmosphere before the screen takes centre stage at 22:00 h.
With an affordable ticket and a format that has already become a summer tradition, “Cinema a la fresca” reaffirms the value of small urban rituals. An opportunity to reconnect with cinema in one of Barcelona’s most pleasant settings when night falls.
